Across Africa\u2019s bustling cities, where motorcycle taxis (boda-bodas) and other forms of transport dominate urban mobility, a silent revolution is unfolding. Instead of the familiar roar of fuel engines, a new sound emerges\u2014the quiet hum of electric bicycles. At the forefront of this transformation is AfricroozE GmbH, a German-based company with subsidiaries in Uganda and partners in Tanzania and Namibia\u2014expanding to even more African countries.<\/p>\n

AfricroozE was born out of a vision of the NGO EURIST (European Institute for Sustainable Transport, Hamburg) to address three major challenges: Rising fuel costs, environmental pollution and lack of access to affordable means of transport for the mayority. With support from EURIST, a German NGO dedicated to sustainable mobility, and funding from the KfW DEG project, AfricroozE in cooperation with its Indian supplier NNE has developed robust, solar-powered electric bicycles designed specifically for Africa\u2019s diverse terrains. These e-bikes provide an eco-friendly alternative to traditional petrol-powered transport, cutting daily transport costs by up to 80%, reducing emissions, and creating new economic opportunities and jobs in the transport sector .
Beyond individual riders, AfricroozE\u2019s impact extends to entire communities. The company has established solar-powered charging stations and trained local mechanics to maintain and repair e-bikes, fostering job creation in Africa\u2019s growing green economy. Additionally, AfricroozE has introduced flexible financing models that allow customers\u2014including delivery workers, small-scale traders, and commuters\u2014to lease or purchase e-bikes through affordable payment plans, making e-mobility accessible to more people.
With over 500 e-bikes already on the roads across Uganda, Zambia, Kenya, and Togo, Benin, AfricroozE\u2019s movement is gaining momentum. The company is now expanding operations through franchise models and micro-financing solutions, ensuring that more African cities can benefit from clean and cost-effective mobility. Moreover – through its Durch partner Nijland BV – Africroozes will be produced locally from mid 2025 on.
AfricroozE is not just about electric bicycles\u2014it\u2019s about empowering communities, reducing carbon footprints, and shaping the future of African transportation. Arrival of AfricrozzE e-Bikes in Jinja<\/h2>\n

The container carrying 105 AfricrozzE e-bikes has successfully arrived in Jinja. After a brief inspection and unloading, sales have already begun. Interest in the new e-bikes is high \u2013 around 56% of the bikes have been sold within a short period of time.
The team in Jinja is now working on distributing the remaining models to interested customers and planning further marketing activities to boost sales in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Our AfricroozE e-bike is prominently supported by the German actor Bjarne M\u00e4del, also known as \u201ccrime scene cleaner\u201d or from his hit film \u201c25 km\/h\u201d. Bjarne, who himself lived in Nigeria for a while when he was young, shows his connection to Africa both on stage in the play \u201cBenefit \u2013 Everyone Saves an African\u201d and in private. In April 2019 he visited our e-bike project in Uganda.
